Happy Monday

It's very late in the day for my happy Monday post, in fact it's practically Tuesday now, but I'm still counting it for today. I had a late start with the day because John and went to a FABULOUS company Christmas party last night. It was so much fun with really, really good food. Lots of friends to hang out with in the freezing cold huddled under heaters late into the night . It was awesome! So the day had a late start before a lot of fun running around with John to buy our Christmas and Christmas eve menu's. This is also going to be very yummy, my husband is trying his hand at eggnog cheese cake. He did an awesome job with the pumpkin cheese cake at Thanksgiving and I can't wait to try his new creation. Any ways back to today's sketch, I took the image from Alexander Mcqueens runway show from Style.com. I just love his theatrical designs. I'm also still really loving drawing right in Illustrator, much better than I do in Photoshop, all of my work is ready for print and holds the spontaneity of the original drawing.

Just a quick sketch before John and I head off to his big holiday party at work, it's going to be really fun and YUMMY!!!! :) But I wanted to squeeze in a sketch before leaving. The image was studied from the Betsy Johnson collection. Happy Holidays, off to party.

Saturday night sketch

I have two sketches that I did this evening, the first one is from an image from the Miss Sixty website and the other is one that I made up. I'm buried under a nice fuzzy blanket as I work this evening, it's freezing here right now and we're suppose to get colder, down in the 30's. I love it! It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. :)

Just one more before bed

I had to do just one more drawing before bed, it's 1:39 a.m. Technically this could be my post for Saturday, but I'll probably do another one during the day. Hee hee. Me likely drawing and designing. :) Happy Saturday. Oh, by the way the photo is of the very talented John Galiano runway show.

Friday sketch

My sketch today is a study of the amazing fashion designer Alexander Mcqueen. I love his work with his theatrical background combined with fashion.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Happy holidays everyone from the Pierro clan. These are pictures of our furry babies Dunkin ( our big guy) and my precious little baby Lil' Shimmey Marie. Zen ( the kitty) was not going to have anything to do with this nonsense! In the bottom picture, I was looking at the amazing work of Eyvind Earle in his great big red book, when I set the book down my little cuttie pie hopped on it and curled up for a nap. Isn't she adorable! I tell her this every single day, a thousand times a day. But she really is, isn't she. HeeHee :) The art work around the pictures was done by my very talented and wonderful husband, John. Check out his blog and website.

Daily fashion sketch BABY!

I'm doing daily fashion sketches in the computer using the Illustrator program. I really like doing sketches directly into the program, I usually drawing on paper with pen/ pencil then scan the images in and work over them. I like both ways though as long as I'm drawing and creating pretty pictures. The photo I worked from is from Style.com

Holy CRAP this was fun!!!!

I had so much fun doing my sketches in the computer this evening. I never do this, I usually use pencil or pen then scan them in to work on them in Illustrator, but this evening I drew right in Illustrator and it was so freeing. I think my sketches turned out so much better. I love the spontaneity I could get with my drawings. This will make it even more fun to design everything right in Illustrator. Life is good!!! :)

OK, I can finally let my big secret out of the bag!!!!!

Yeah, I can finally talk about the project John and I worked on over the summer. My husband and I had the wonderful opportunity to work on yet another Walt Disney animated film. It was such a pleasure to work on another hand drawn Disney film with some of our former crew from the Orlando studio that now works with Premise Entertainment. Thank you so much Premise for not only allowing John and I to work on the film, but to also be apart of history with the first African American Disney princess. In August John and I were able to attend a wrap party screening at the Enzion theater here in Orlando and the movie was stunning, we just loved every bit of it. It was also a wonderful day because the directors Ron Clements and John Musker were flown in special for the occasion who signed our movie posters. It was so much fun!!!! :) Go see the movie everyone it was FANTASTIC. It opens in theaters tomorrow Friday December 11th.
PS:There's a gorgeous scene that Eric Golberg animated of the alligator where he's playing a trumpet while the frogs are jumping around him while he's swimming on his back through the bog. John and I had the opportunity to clean-up a huge chunk of the this scene. IT WAS AWSOME to work on Eric's gorgeous drawings and animation. Such fun!! Keep your eyes open for it.

Web design

I've been working on redesigning my website. I want to show case more of my work other than just what I've done on my Hey Poodle line. I'm shooting to have it up before Christmas, but there's a lot to hook up to make it work properly. Fingers crossed that it goes smoothly.

Designing and printing

Lately I've been working on sketches and designs for new shirts to print. I had a really good printing run this week and I'mexcited to design another batch to be printed in the next few days. I have been printing onto my own clothing because I'm sick of wearing small mens tees which I was using for the test prints. It's so much more fun to be wearing a girls tee than a boys boxy tee all the time. When I feel like I'm ready I'll place an order for some fun cute tees from American Apparel and/or Alternative Apparel. They both have some really cool designs for clothing that I think will work well with my designs. But for now, while I'm still in the play stage, the boys tees will work just fine oranything else I can get my hands onto. I included some of the thumbnail sketches, sketches and the final printed tees. I definitely want to print onto some cuter t-shirts and clothing than I used for these final prints. See what you think. Toodles Poodle

Today is the day!

Today is the day that I finally will be able to test print the gold ink. I'm so excited! I'm off. :)

GOLD baby!

Happy Monday everyone! Today my goal is to test print with gold ink to see if it comes out the way that I imagine it will. It's so interesting with silk screening, because you think it's going to turn out one way, yet it has a mind of it's own and will turn out another way that you didn't expect. Sometimes with very interesting outcomes. Off to print. :)

I LOVE screen printing!

I have fallen in LOVE with the process of screen printing! There are so many exciting printing possibilities you can achieve with the process. My main focus for the next couple of months is to practice, practice, practice, printing to achieve high quality gorgeous products. None of that crap that was coming out of licensing my artwork. :) Right now it's not about new designs, ist's about learning everything I can about the printing process. I'm off to get dirty. Have a good weekend.

I'ts been a while with a post

Hi Everyone!,
Sorry for not posting for such a long time but I've been working away over the summer in my studio. I have been screen printing onto clothing to test new designs of John's and my artwork to try out different inks and techniques. The entire process is amazing and very exciting!!! I love being part of the entire process instead of just designing and handing off my files to someone else to print and produce. It's so much more fulfilling this way and I can oversee everything for quality control and continuity of the line. I will put up pics soon of the good, bad and ugly.

Also over the summer I have been doing some freelance work designing jewelry for a company. And I have also been working on a very secret project that I'm not allowed to talk about yet, but will let the cat out of the bag in a couple of months.

Agents are STUPID!

I just found this image done by Todd Goldman, the artist and owner of the clothing apparel line David & Goliath, and I couldn't agree more! Thanks Todd for saying it so well.

Busy, busy, busy!

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't posted much this past week. I've been busy reclaiming screens as well as putting emulsion onto them. Since the emulsion is light sensitve and I have to work in a dark room I'm unable to post any photos of the process. Now with the printing prep work finished my main focus now is to design like crazy! I love this part! The goal for John and I is to have our work ready by the end of August to launch our Etsy shop. It will contain John's pottery bowls, etchings, small drawings and paintings, and our silkscreened tees. With all this going on, as well as, work and life we also have freelance work that comes in periodically. So it's going to be busy, busy, busy the next two months, but that's how we like it! :)

Stretching, degreasing, and printing, oh my!

My apologies for not posting the last couple of days but I have been very busy in the screen prinitng studio with stretching screens, degreasing screens to prep them for emulsion, and then printing another test design.

I use the stretch cord method to stretch all of my screens. This way my studio is completely self sufficient when it comes to re-stretching the mesh when the time comes. It's also a lot cheaper than buying the pre-stretched frames. It's a real killer on the hands though. I did 15 of them over 2 days.

After stretching the screens I degrease them to get them ready for the emulsion. I'm going to do that maybe tonight or tomorrow. I need to make more room to store all of them.

Last night I stayed up till around 2:00 a.m. doing a test run print on another design. Again, I was very pleased with the outcome. I'm getting closer and closer to buying the over size transparencies so I can break out of this 8.5"x11" box that I have been working in.

Frames, frames, and more frames! YEAH!

My new batch of 19 frames came in this week so I've been busy applying polyurethane to seal and protect them from warping during use. This makes it a total of 32 frames that I have already. I use the stretch cord method to stretch the screens which makes it very easy to be a self sufficient silk screen studio. I'll be done tomorrow with sealing the second batch of frames so hopefully this weekend I will be able to test another one of my designs that I have ready on transparencies to burn onto screens. Next week I plan on stretching all of the frames with mesh and prep them for emulsion.
